Where does an independent Dynamics 365 consultant fit in a Belgian project?
In Belgium an independent Dynamics 365 consultant protects the customer's interests while a Dynamics 365 partner licenses and implements the system. Typical work includes deciding whether a Belgian entity joins a group template or runs its own Business Central, verifying the Belgian localization for VAT, listings, bank files and Peppol, planning French and Dutch use, and reviewing partner proposals. Working remotely, I stay outside the partner channel and earn nothing from licenses.

I work remotely with Belgian organizations that are evaluating or already rolling out Microsoft Dynamics 365: regional and European offices of international groups, Brussels-based service organizations that run on Microsoft 365, and mid-sized Belgian manufacturers and distributors outgrowing an older ledger.
For many of them the hard questions are not about features. They are about fit inside a group, local requirements that head office may underestimate, and a partner contract that sets the course for years. I help the Belgian team put those questions on the table early and get them answered in writing.
A Dynamics 365 partner builds and licenses the system. I make sure the Belgian entity's needs are documented, tested and delivered.
For entities joining a group Finance and Operations or Business Central template, a list of Belgian requirements the template must absorb, with each gap assigned to configuration, localization or a documented local process.
Belgian VAT scenarios, intra-Community and customer listings, bank statement formats and structured payment references tested in a sandbox of the Belgian version with your accountant.
A clear answer on how your version and any partner app send and receive structured invoices over Peppol, plus cleanup of enterprise and VAT numbers across customers and suppliers.
Interface languages, document layouts per customer language and role design across French, Dutch and English speaking teams, with translated content owned by your staff.
A requirements pack, scripted demos and a scoring sheet for shortlisted Dynamics 365 partners, so proposals are compared on the same scope and the same Belgian scenarios.
Review of statements of work and license quotes, then acceptance testing and cutover checks run with the Belgian team, independent of the implementing partner.
Local needs set beside the group
Scope and partner confirmed
Belgian go-live proven
Many Belgian offices belong to groups that already run Dynamics 365, sometimes Finance and Operations at group level, sometimes Business Central in each country. When Belgium joins, head office usually wants the global template applied with minimal change. The Belgian finance lead, meanwhile, knows the local requirements the template was never designed for.
I sit between those positions. I document Belgian statutory and operational needs, compare them with the template, and classify each gap: covered by Microsoft's localization, solvable by configuration, needing a partner extension, or handled as a documented local process. That gap list goes to group IT and the partner before build estimates are fixed, so the Belgian scope is priced rather than discovered.
Where no group template exists, the choice between the smaller and larger Dynamics 365 ERP products has to be made for Belgium on its own terms. For most single entities and smaller groups Business Central is the realistic option. I set out the trade-offs in writing so group and local stakeholders can decide together. The Business Central page covers the product, and the Dynamics 365 overview explains the family.
Microsoft publishes Business Central in a Belgian localized version, and what that version covers can change between releases. I check the current scope, then test it in a sandbox with your accountant's scenarios rather than relying on slides. Finance and Operations has its own localization features for Belgium, which I review in the same way when it is the chosen product.
The test set usually includes domestic VAT at different rates, the domestic reverse charge where it applies, intra-Community supplies and acquisitions, imports, credit notes, the periodic return, the intra-Community listing and the annual listing of Belgian customers. Banking is tested too: import of statement files from your bank, including CODA where supported, and matching on structured payment references.
Peppol is the item that most often surprises group projects. Belgian rules have been steering B2B invoices onto that network in structured form. Some Business Central releases cover Peppol with built-in e-document functions; others rely on an add-on from a partner or an external access point. Every shortlisted partner must state its route in writing, and the sandbox tests include a test exchange with a cooperative customer and supplier. Legal scope and timing stay with your accountant.
A Belgian entity may have a French-speaking finance team, Dutch-speaking warehouse staff and English-speaking managers reporting to a foreign parent. Dynamics 365 supports several interface languages, but language packs, document layouts and translated master data such as item descriptions and payment terms all need decisions and owners.
I record language needs as requirements: which roles work in which language, which customer documents print in French, Dutch, German or English, and which management reports need parallel language versions. Partners are asked to show these in demos with your own data. During testing, users from each language group run their scenarios in their own interface language.
The engagement runs in English. Translation of layouts, training material and floor-level sessions is done by your bilingual staff or by the partner, and I review the results against the design. Role and permission design follows the same pattern, with GDPR applied to payroll journals, employee data and member or customer contacts. Belgian payroll itself stays with your social secretariat, posting summarized journals into Dynamics 365. For training approach, see ERP training.
Dynamics 365 reaches Belgian customers through firms in Microsoft's partner network that sell licenses, implement and support. Your choice of partner affects cost, quality and long-term flexibility more than most feature comparisons. Group projects may already have a global partner; local projects can choose among Belgian firms and partners based elsewhere in Europe.
I hold no Dynamics 365 partnership and receive nothing from licenses or implementation fees, which is the point of my role. I write the partner brief, design scripted demos around your Belgian scenarios, score proposals and review statements of work and license quotes before signature. I flag thin allowances for migration or testing, add-ons with recurring costs and license tiers you may not need.
Once the build starts, I attend design sessions, maintain the Belgian entity's log of decisions and lead its acceptance tests. I do not configure the system or write extensions; that stays with the partner. Sessions are remote and in English, placed in the Belgian morning while my working day in India overlaps. More on the method appears under ERP RFP consulting, and the ERP consultant for Belgium page compares Dynamics 365 with other platforms. The Belgium hub covers my other services.
Dynamics 365 fits many Belgian entities, but I would recommend a different path, or a sharper comparison, when:
None of these cases rules Microsoft out by default, but each one deserves an explicit answer before contracts are signed. An ERP evaluation runs these comparisons with your own scenarios and leaves a written rationale for the decision, which helps when head office or auditors ask later. It also gives the Belgian finance lead firm ground when local needs are questioned.

No. The Dynamics 365 partner you select supplies both licenses and implementation. My position is separate from Microsoft and from every partner, and I act for the Belgian organization next to them, from requirements and partner selection through design reviews and acceptance testing.
Microsoft publishes a Belgian localized version, and its scope changes between releases. I check the current coverage and test your accountant's VAT scenarios, listings and bank statement imports in a sandbox, so gaps are known and priced before the partner contract is signed.
Yes. I document Belgian requirements, compare them with the template and classify each gap, then share the list with group IT and the partner before estimates are fixed. That keeps the local scope visible and priced from the start, rather than surfacing during testing.
Dynamics 365 supports several interface languages, and documents can print per customer language. I define the language requirements and test them with users from each group, while your bilingual staff or the partner prepare translated layouts, user material and classroom training.
Every business is different. Share where you are today and what you want to fix, and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
