ERP for Rhine-Main groups, hubs and labs

How does an ERP consultant help a Frankfurt company?

For a Frankfurt company, an ERP consultant designs how entities, intercompany flows, controlling and operations should fit together in one system, then steers the platform decision and the rollout. Across Rhine-Main that often means holding and regional headquarters structures, finance teams with high reporting expectations, airport-linked logistics and process industry batch control. The work is remote and in English; any visit is agreed in advance.

I work remotely with businesses in Frankfurt and across the Rhine-Main region. The city is known for finance, but the companies that need ERP help are more varied: German and European headquarters of international groups, holding structures with several operating subsidiaries, freight forwarders and logistics firms near the airport, trade fair exhibitors and service providers, and chemical, pharmaceutical and industrial businesses nearby.

What they share is a finance function under scrutiny. Group controllers, auditors, lenders and parent companies all want consistent numbers, delivered quickly. I help these businesses design a structure that produces those numbers from the system itself, rather than from a stack of spreadsheets assembled after every period end.

What I Do

Support for Frankfurt's finance-led organizations

In Frankfurt the finance team is often the strongest voice in an ERP decision. The topics below come up again and again.

Entity and Ledger Design

I define how legal entities, branches, currencies and ledgers are set up, so statutory books, management views and parent reporting can coexist without parallel spreadsheets or repeated manual adjustments.

Intercompany Automation

Recharges, management fees, internal sales and loans between group companies create matching work every month. I specify automated intercompany postings and elimination support, then test them during acceptance.

Controlling Structure

German controlling traditions expect cost centers, cost objects and allocations that reflect how the business is steered. I design these dimensions with your controllers before configuration starts.

Reporting and Dashboards

I plan which figures come from the ERP directly and which need a reporting layer such as Power BI, defining data owners, refresh timing and the checks that keep dashboards aligned with the ledger.

Freight and Forwarding Operations

For forwarders and logistics service providers near the airport, I scope shipment files, cost accruals per job, carrier invoice matching and customer billing so each shipment shows its true margin.

Process Industry Requirements

Chemical and pharmaceutical firms need recipes, batches, quality status and documentation. I write these requirements and check how each shortlisted system handles them before a decision is made.

Frankfurt and Rhine-Main: more than a banking city

Frankfurt is home to the European Central Bank, Germany's main stock exchange and a large concentration of banks, asset managers and insurers. That profile shapes the city, but core banking systems are a world of their own and not what I work on. The ERP conversations here come from the businesses around finance and beyond it: advisory firms, fintech companies that need to run their own back office, regional headquarters of international groups, and holding companies that own several operating businesses.

The wider Rhine-Main region adds a strong industrial and logistics base. Frankfurt Airport is one of Europe's major passenger and cargo hubs, surrounded by forwarders, handling agents and distribution operations. Chemical and pharmaceutical production has deep roots in the area, with large industrial parks hosting many separate companies. Messe Frankfurt brings a steady calendar of international trade fairs, which in turn supports exhibitors, event services and hospitality.

Common German topics, including archiving principles, tax advisor exchange and e-invoicing direction, are explained on my national page for Germany; what follows deals with what the Rhine-Main business mix demands from a system.

Groups, holdings and regional headquarters

Many Frankfurt-based organizations are not single companies but groups. A German subsidiary may also act as the regional hub for several neighboring countries. A holding company may own a portfolio of businesses that were bought at different times and still run different systems. A foreign parent may expect its German entity to report in a group chart of accounts, on the group calendar, while local books follow German rules.

The ERP design has to make this manageable. I document the legal structure, the flows of goods, services and money between entities, the reporting each stakeholder expects, and the timetable for producing it. From there I write requirements for multi-entity setup, intercompany automation, currency handling, account mapping between local and group views, and consolidation support or an interface to a separate consolidation tool. My multi-company ERP page sets out the main options.

Holdings that grow through acquisition face an extra decision: harmonize every subsidiary onto one platform, or keep local systems and standardize only the reporting. Both can be right. I compare cost, risk and the value of shared processes for your specific portfolio, then help you plan a rollout order if harmonization wins.

Controlling, close and reporting expectations

Finance teams in this region often include experienced controllers who expect more than a profit and loss statement. They want contribution margins by product and customer, cost center reports with allocations, budget versus actual by month, cash forecasts and a fast, repeatable close. Auditors, lenders and parent companies add their own requests on top.

A system that cannot deliver this from its own data will be surrounded by spreadsheets within months. I therefore treat the controlling model as a first-class design topic. Together with your finance team I define cost centers, cost objects, allocation rules and reporting dimensions, then check how naturally each candidate platform supports them. I also define which reports come straight from the ERP and which belong in a reporting tool, with clear rules on who owns each figure. The management dashboards page explains how I approach that layer.

During testing, I run closing scenarios rather than single transactions: a full month with accruals, intercompany charges, currency revaluation and adjustments, closed in the new system and compared with the old one. That is where hidden gaps in a finance design usually show up, and it is far cheaper to find them before go-live than after.

Air cargo, forwarding and process industries

The airport economy creates its own requirements. Forwarders and logistics providers work in shipment files rather than simple orders. Each file collects revenue from the customer and costs from airlines, truckers, handling agents and customs brokers, often in several currencies and with carrier invoices arriving long after the goods have moved. Margin per shipment is only reliable if costs are accrued when the job runs and matched later. I document that flow, define what belongs in a specialist forwarding system and what belongs in the ERP, and plan the interface between them with my logistics ERP checklist.

Chemical and pharmaceutical businesses in the region face a different discipline. Recipes and formulas, batch production, quality release, shelf life, hazardous goods data and controlled documentation all have to be supported. Companies operating within larger industrial parks may also buy utilities and site services from the park operator, which shows up as internal or external recharges in finance. I record these needs as numbered requirements, drawing on my pharmaceutical ERP material where relevant, and leave the interpretation of GMP and product safety rules to your quality team.

How remote work with a Frankfurt team runs

Frankfurt keeps Central European time, so your morning lines up with my working afternoon in India. I keep that overlap for steering meetings, finance design workshops and acceptance testing, and handle document reviews, test preparation and partner follow-up outside it. Finance projects benefit from this rhythm: workshop outcomes are written up and circulated the same day, and controllers can comment in their own time ahead of the following session.

The engagement runs in English, a good fit for most group finance and headquarters teams. Where local staff need German-language documents, reports or training, those are prepared or reviewed by your team or a local partner. For groups with a parent abroad, I also make sure the design documents can be followed by the head office without translation.

Larger implementations usually involve a German or international partner. I act purely for you: scrutinizing statements of work, checking that finance requirements are met in the build and confirming migration reconciliations. On-site attendance, for instance at a steering committee or for go-live, can be organized by arrangement. FAQ

Questions About ERP Consultant Frankfurt

No. Core banking, trading and regulatory reporting platforms are specialist fields. I work on the business systems around them: finance, procurement, projects and reporting for advisory firms, fintech back offices, holding companies and the many non-financial businesses in the region. If your question sits inside a banking platform, a specialist is the right choice.

Not automatically. One platform simplifies support, reporting and shared services, but forcing very different businesses into one design can cost more than it saves. I compare full harmonization, a common reporting layer and mixed approaches for your portfolio, then recommend the option with the best balance of cost, risk and control.

In most cases, provided the design allows for it early on. I specify the mapping from local accounts to the group chart, the currency translation rules and the reporting deadlines. Then I test a full reporting cycle before go-live. Accounting treatment differences between local rules and group standards are confirmed by your accountants.

Often yes. Specialist forwarding software handles bookings, documents and carrier communication better than most general ERPs. The ERP then takes care of finance, accruals and reporting. Together we settle where that boundary lies, and I design the interface so each shipment's revenue and costs arrive in finance complete and on time.
