ERP for Barcelona's brands, ports and venues

How does an ERP consultant help a Barcelona business?

For a Barcelona business, an ERP consultant maps how products, stock, sales channels and finance should work together, then guides the platform choice and supervises delivery. In and around the city that often means importers working through the port, fashion and food brands selling across Europe, hotel and restaurant groups, pharmaceutical producers and fast-growing tech companies. Sessions run online and in English; Barcelona visits are arranged only on request.

I work remotely with businesses in Barcelona and across its metropolitan area. The city combines a major Mediterranean port and logistics zone with a long manufacturing tradition in Catalonia, strong fashion, design and food brands, a large tourism and hospitality sector, pharmaceutical and chemical companies, and a growing community of technology startups and international tech hubs.

Many of these businesses sell well beyond Spain and juggle several channels at once. I help them describe the order, stock and money flows they really have, and find an ERP that fits them, instead of forcing teams into a system built for someone else's business model.

What I Do

Support for Barcelona's export and service businesses

Trade through the port, brands with international customers and a visitor economy shape most of the ERP questions I hear from Barcelona.

Import and Port Flows

For importers working through the port and nearby logistics zones, I map orders, shipments, customs data, landed costs and warehouse receipt, so stock values and margins reflect what goods really cost.

Brand and Wholesale Operations

Fashion, footwear, furniture and design brands sell through their own shops, online, marketplaces and retailers abroad. I define product data, channel stock and wholesale order handling for that mix.

Food and Beverage Exports

For producers of wine, cava, olive oil, cured meats and prepared foods, I scope lots, dates, excise or labeling data where relevant and export documentation, then test candidate systems with your range.

Hospitality Group Finance

Hotel and restaurant groups need purchasing, recipe costing, central kitchens and consolidated reporting across sites. I design how property and point-of-sale systems connect to a central ERP.

Pharmaceutical Production Needs

Pharma and chemical producers around Barcelona need batch records, quality release and traceability. I document these requirements and check each platform against real scenarios, leaving regulation to your quality team.

Tech Company Back Office

Startups and tech hubs need billing, expenses, multi-entity accounting and investor reporting. I help them choose a lean core system and connect it to CRM and acquisition data.

Barcelona's business mix and what it requires

Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and one of the Mediterranean's main commercial cities. Its port handles containers, vehicles, bulk goods and cruise traffic, and the Zona Franca next to it hosts one of Spain's largest concentrations of logistics and industrial activity. Catalonia has a deep manufacturing tradition, from textiles in the past to automotive, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics and food processing today. Fashion and design brands, publishers, a vibrant food and wine sector, and a tourism and hospitality industry that serves very large numbers of visitors all contribute to the economy. More recently the city has attracted startups, digital companies and engineering hubs of international technology firms.

For ERP projects this means a wide range of requirements in one metropolitan area. Importers and distributors need purchasing, landed cost and warehouse control. Brands need product, channel and stock management across borders. Hospitality groups need multi-site purchasing and reporting. Process manufacturers need batch and quality control. Tech companies need clean finance and billing. I always start by clarifying which of these profiles fits your business, because that determines the shortlist.

National obligations such as SII invoice reporting, e-invoicing and Spanish localization sit on my Spain-wide ERP page. The sections below are about Barcelona.

Importers, distributors and the port economy

Many Barcelona trading companies import goods from Asia and elsewhere through the port, store them in warehouses in the Zona Franca, the Llobregat delta or along the motorways inland, and distribute them to customers in Spain, France, Portugal and further across Europe. Some also re-export to North Africa or Latin America. The margin on each product depends on getting purchase price, freight, duties, port charges and handling into the stock value, and on knowing what is in transit at any moment.

I map the complete import cycle: supplier order, production follow-up, shipment booking, container arrival, customs clearance, warehouse receipt and onward sale. Then I specify how the ERP should record goods in transit, allocate landed costs, handle currency on purchases and support customer pricing. Customs declarations stay with your broker; the ERP needs to hold and exchange the right data. Where a third-party logistics provider runs your warehouse, I design the stock and order interface so both sides agree on what is available.

These requirements become the basis for scripted vendor demonstrations, where each candidate processes one of your real shipments from order to margin report. My trading ERP and logistics ERP pages describe the underlying checklists.

Fashion, design and food brands selling abroad

Barcelona has given rise to many consumer brands: clothing and footwear labels, furniture and lighting designers, cosmetics companies and food and wine producers whose products reach shops and restaurants across Europe and beyond. Their systems often grew by addition, with an online store, a wholesale tool, a warehouse partner and an accounting package each holding part of the picture.

For fashion and design brands, I define the product structure with variants and seasons, the wholesale order book, stock allocation between own shops, online and retailers, and the returns process. For food and beverage producers, the focus shifts to lots, dates, production planning, export paperwork and, where relevant, excise and labeling requirements, which I flag for confirmation with your advisors. In both cases, international selling means multiple currencies, intra-EU VAT rules for European customers and customs documents for markets outside the EU, all of which should be designed in rather than handled by hand.

I test candidate systems with your own catalog and a sample of real orders from each channel, using my retail ERP and food and beverage ERP frameworks. I also connect acquisition and CRM data where it helps, so marketing spend can be judged against margin by channel and market.

Hotels, restaurants and the visitor economy

Tourism is a pillar of the Barcelona economy, supporting hotel groups, apartment operators, restaurant chains, catering companies, tour and event businesses. Their operational systems are usually specialized: a property management system for rooms, point-of-sale terminals in restaurants and bars, booking platforms and channel managers. What often goes missing is the back office that ties them together: purchasing from many suppliers, central kitchen production, recipe costing, inventory across outlets, and consolidated financial reporting across properties or restaurants.

I define what the ERP should own and what should remain in the specialist systems, then design the integrations that bring daily revenue, payments and consumption into finance automatically. Seasonality shapes every requirement, from staffing costs to stock levels to cash flow planning, so reporting must show performance by site and period clearly. Payroll for hospitality staff is typically run by a local provider or gestoría, and I define the data exchange rather than the payroll rules.

The same approach suits groups with sites in other Spanish tourist areas, where the Canary Islands may introduce a different indirect tax regime that the country page explains. My hospitality ERP page sets out the requirements I use as a starting point.

Working with Barcelona teams remotely

Barcelona keeps Central European time, which means the city's morning and the hours after lunch fall within my working day in India. Workshops, vendor demonstrations and acceptance sessions take place in that overlap, and documentation, analysis and partner follow-up happen in the remaining hours. A shared decision log and recorded sessions let colleagues in other countries, or in stores and hotels with irregular hours, keep up.

The engagement runs in English. Teams in Barcelona may work in Spanish, Catalan or both, and many international companies here already use English as a working language. Any Spanish or Catalan text, such as customer documents, signage-related product data, screen labels and training materials, is drafted and proofread by bilingual colleagues or a local partner, with every such item tagged in the specification.

Hospitality and retail businesses have clear peak seasons, so I plan cutover outside them and agree fallback steps in advance. Importers often have their own peaks around key shipping periods, which I also take into account. A visit to Barcelona for a kickoff or go-live is possible if arranged ahead. Companies also active in the capital can read the Madrid page, and national context sits on the Spain hub. You can contact me to discuss your project.

FAQ

Questions About ERP Consultant Barcelona

The engagement runs in English. Your users can of course work in Spanish or Catalan in the system where the platform supports it. Spanish and Catalan documents, labels and training material are prepared by bilingual people in your business or a local partner, and the specification identifies every item needing local-language text.

By treating each shipment as a costing unit and allocating freight, duty, port and handling charges to the items in it under agreed rules. I define those rules, how late invoices are accrued, and test the result on a real past shipment. Customs treatment itself is confirmed with your broker.

Usually not. Property management, point-of-sale and booking tools are specialized and do their jobs well. The ERP should handle purchasing, inventory, finance and group reporting, with integrations bringing operational data across daily. I help you define that split and the integration design.

Most early-stage companies do well with a solid cloud accounting system and a few connected tools. A full ERP becomes worthwhile once you have stock, several entities, complex billing or demanding reporting. I assess where you are and recommend the step that will not need undoing a year or two later.
