How is ERPNext Accounting set up for a Swiss company?
For a Swiss company, ERPNext Accounting is set up on the SME chart of accounts your fiduciary uses, with VAT templates for domestic sales, exports, imports and acquisition tax on foreign services, a net tax rate check, QR reference matching for incoming payments and a clean year-end handover. QR-bill and bank file support usually comes from a regional app, confirmed with Frappe or the partner. I work remotely.

Many Swiss SMEs keep the books with a fiduciary close at hand: the company records invoices and payments, the Treuhand firm checks VAT, closes the year and prepares the financial statements. Moving operations to ERPNext changes what the fiduciary receives, so the ledger has to be designed with their working method in mind, not only with the finance team's daily routine.
I plan that design with both sides, test it on a real quarter and document which Swiss pieces depend on community apps. The work is remote, the engagement runs in English and your fiduciary keeps every tax and accounting judgment.
These services cover the points where a Swiss fiduciary, a Swiss bank or the VAT return meets the way ERPNext records transactions.
An ERPNext account tree following the Swiss SME chart structure your fiduciary works with, numbered so trial balances, exports and their review files line up without a translation table.
A check of whether you settle VAT on the effective method or a net tax rate method, and what that means for templates, reports and the figures ERPNext must produce each period.
Postings for acquisition tax on services bought from foreign suppliers, such as software subscriptions and consulting, so both sides of the tax appear correctly without manual journals.
Receivables designed around QR references so incoming payments from bank statement files settle the right invoice, with exceptions such as partial and combined payments routed for review.
An agreed year-end pack: trial balance, open items, fixed asset register, stock valuation and reconciled bank accounts, exported in a form the fiduciary can load into their own package.
A record of every Swiss-specific app or customization with its maintainer and supported versions, plus a rehearsal routine run on a copy before each ERPNext upgrade.

Swiss fiduciaries commonly organize client ledgers on the SME chart of accounts, with its classes for assets, liabilities, revenue, material and personnel costs. ERPNext organizes accounts as a tree of groups and ledgers, can show account numbers and accepts a chart import. A Swiss template may be offered when a company is created, depending on your version, but I rebuild the tree from the fiduciary's own list rather than trust a template.
Points I settle with the fiduciary:
For the general design method of the finance module, see my ERPNext Accounting consultant page.
ERPNext calculates tax through templates on sales and purchase documents, with item tax templates where products differ. That is enough to model Swiss VAT on the effective method: tax charged on sales, input tax claimed on purchases and the figures for the return read from dedicated tax accounts. Your fiduciary confirms rates and treatments; I build and test the templates.
Cases I set up one by one:
Smaller companies may use a net tax rate method instead, which calculates the VAT payable from turnover using an authorized rate. Do not expect built-in logic for it in ERPNext; confirm for your version, and plan on a simple report or custom calculation, while sales documents still show the normal VAT. Confirm with your fiduciary which method you use before any template is built; the answer changes the design. Before go-live, a full quarter of ERPNext figures is compared with the fiduciary's own working.
The ERPNext consultant Switzerland page explains that QR-bill printing usually comes from a community app. The accounting value lies in what happens after the customer pays. If every invoice carries a structured reference, the payment arriving on your bank statement can find its invoice without anyone typing.
The design I specify and test:
Confirm with Frappe or the partner you use which apps currently cover this for your release, and test with your bank's test platform where one exists. I am independent of all of them: no Frappe partnership, no hosting or support plans for sale and no referral fees.
The annual financial statements of a Swiss company follow the Code of Obligations, and the fiduciary or auditor prepares or reviews them. ERPNext produces a balance sheet, profit and loss and trial balance, but the statutory presentation, valuation decisions and any notes remain the fiduciary's work. My job is to give them a ledger they can close quickly.
The year-end pack I agree with the fiduciary usually contains:
Once the fiduciary has posted their closing entries, either in ERPNext or in their own system with a journal sent back, the period is locked so nothing changes behind them. We rehearse the whole routine on a quarter-end before the first real year-end, which is where handover gaps tend to surface. Separate legal entities each get their own company in ERPNext and their own pack.
ERPNext carries no license fee, but its Swiss pieces carry maintenance work. Every app for QR-bills, bank files or reports needs a named maintainer: your own developer, a Swiss service firm or a remote team on a written support agreement. The repository should belong to your company. Hosting follows from your data residency decision, which the parent page covers; whichever route you take, each upgrade runs first on a copy, where VAT figures, payment matching and the handover export are retested.
ERPNext Accounting is a weaker choice for a Swiss company when:
In those situations Odoo Accounting in Switzerland, Zoho Books in Switzerland or Business Central in Switzerland may be a closer match, and a short structured comparison is worthwhile. My selection approach is under ERP consultant Switzerland, and the Switzerland hub describes how remote sessions are organized.

Not sure which ERP you need?
Share your business requirements with me and I will help you understand the right process, architecture and platform before implementation.
Do not count on built-in logic for it; confirm for your version with Frappe or the partner. Sales documents still show normal VAT, while the amount payable is calculated from turnover using the authorized rate. That calculation usually needs a simple report or custom code, agreed with your fiduciary before anyone relies on it.
It can, once a regional app or custom code reads your bank's XML statement files and links each referenced payment to its invoice. I specify the matching rules, route partial and combined payments to a review list and test the flow with your bank's test platform.
Yes. ERPNext supplies a clean trial balance, open items, reconciled banks and stock valuation, and the fiduciary prepares or reviews the statutory statements. I agree the contents of that year-end pack with them in advance and rehearse the full routine at a quarter-end, so gaps surface before the real closing.
I set up a purchase tax template that posts both the tax due and, where you are entitled, the input tax when a foreign service invoice is booked. Your fiduciary confirms which purchases fall under it, and the figures are checked against their working for a full quarter.
Every business is different. Share where you are today and what you want to fix, and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
