Why hire a freelance ERP consultant in the UK?
UK SMEs whose Xero or Sage books are fine but whose stock, jobs and purchasing sit in disconnected add-ons often need an independent view before spending more. As a freelance ERP consultant with no software margin, I help decide between more apps, a cleaner setup or a full ERP, then act as client-side lead or deliver a lean rollout. Sessions run remotely in UK working hours.

Many UK small and mid-sized businesses reach the same crossroads: Xero or Sage handles the books well, but stock, jobs, purchasing and sales live in add-ons and spreadsheets that no longer talk to each other. The next step could be more apps, a full ERP or a cleaner version of what you already have. I work remotely with businesses in the United Kingdom as a freelance ERP consultant to help you make that call and carry it through.
You work directly with Vikas from the first call to handover. There is no account manager in the middle and no software margin to protect. I can advise before you speak to any vendor, act as your client-side lead while a partner implements, or deliver a lean Zoho, Odoo or ERPNext rollout myself.
All of the work is delivered remotely, with live sessions planned inside UK working hours and the rest done between calls.
Choose the level of involvement that matches your stage, your budget and the capacity of your own team.
A short review of your current accounting, stock and sales tools, how data moves between them and where it breaks, ending with a clear recommendation: optimize, extend or replace.
An independent comparison of options such as Zoho, Odoo, ERPNext and Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central against your processes, with honest notes on where each falls short.
Help writing the brief, running scripted demos and comparing proposals from UK implementation partners, so you choose on substance rather than on the most confident pitch.
Part-time ownership of the project on your behalf: plan, risks, decisions, scope and testing, so your managers can keep running the business while the system is built.
For smaller teams, I configure, migrate data and train users on Zoho, Odoo or ERPNext myself, keeping the build close to standard so it stays easy to maintain.
A light monthly arrangement for prioritizing improvements, reviewing change requests and keeping the system in step with new sites, product lines or EU trade.

Xero, Sage and QuickBooks are popular with UK small businesses for good reason. They handle bookkeeping, bank feeds and VAT returns well, and many UK accountants know them inside out. The difficulty starts when the business grows around them: a stock app, a job management tool, a CRM, an e-commerce store and several spreadsheets, each connected by imports, Zapier-style automations or manual re-keying.
At that point there are three honest options. You can tidy and integrate the current stack, move operations into a single ERP while keeping your accounting package for now, or move everything into one system. Each has a different cost, risk and disruption profile, and the right answer depends on your processes, not on what a vendor sells.
This is where a freelance ERP consultant earns their place. I map how orders, stock, jobs and finance actually flow, identify which problems come from the software and which from the process, and set out the options side by side. If a full ERP is right, my ERP evaluation work narrows the field. If it is not, I will say so. For how I approach UK ERP projects more widely, including VAT and Making Tax Digital, see my ERP consultant page for the UK.
The UK has a large network of implementation partners for Microsoft Dynamics, Sage, Odoo and other platforms. Some UK projects genuinely need one: multi-site rollouts, warehouse hardware, complex manufacturing, or bespoke development on platforms I do not build on myself. A freelance consultant does not replace that capacity, and I would not pretend otherwise.
What I bring is an independent, client-side view. Before you engage a partner, I help you write a clear brief and requirements, so every proposal answers the same questions. During selection, I score demos and proposals against those requirements and point out assumptions that could become change requests later. Once a partner is chosen, I can stay on as your fractional ERP lead, reviewing designs, chairing progress meetings, tracking decisions and managing user acceptance testing on your side.
Partners generally welcome this when it is done well. A client with clear requirements, decisive owners and a structured testing plan is easier to deliver for. For you, it means one person whose only interest is that the system works for your business, and who stays focused on that from first brief to go-live.
UK businesses tend to prefer clear, bounded commitments, especially for a first engagement. I keep the structure straightforward:
I do not publish rates. The effort on any ERP engagement is driven by the number of companies and sites, the complexity of stock and jobs, the number of integrations, the state of your data and how much your own people can take on. I explain these drivers in the first conversation and recommend the lightest model that will work.
Contracting is a standard consulting agreement. How any engagement with an independent contractor is treated for tax and employment purposes is a matter for your accountant or legal advisor, and I am happy to provide whatever information they need. You can read more about cost factors in my article on ERP implementation cost.
Remote delivery works well for most ERP work, because the core tasks, such as process mapping, requirements, configuration, data preparation, testing and training, happen on screen anyway. What matters is a predictable rhythm and clear written records.
I plan live sessions inside the UK working day and adjust when the clocks change between GMT and British Summer Time, so recurring meetings stay at sensible local times all year. Workshops are kept focused, usually with one process area per session, and finish with notes and actions shared the same day. Configuration, documentation and test preparation happen between sessions, so there is visible progress each week.
For UK businesses with staff or customers in Europe, I can include EU-based colleagues in the same sessions, since the time difference is small. For go-live and the first VAT period on the new system, I keep extra availability in UK hours so questions are answered quickly. Short recorded walkthroughs help people who work shifts or could not attend live. You can find more about my work in this market on the UK overview, or book an intro call.
Tell me about your business and current systems. I’ll suggest the most sensible first step.

Not sure which ERP you need?
Share your business requirements with me and I will help you understand the right process, architecture and platform before implementation.
Not always. Some businesses are better served by keeping their accounting package and adding a properly integrated operations system, or by tidying their current apps. I review your processes and data flows first, then set out the options with their trade-offs so you can decide based on fit rather than a sales pitch.
For advisory work, selection and lean rollouts on Zoho, Odoo or ERPNext, yes. For larger or highly customized projects, a partner team is usually needed, and I act as your independent client-side lead alongside them. I will tell you honestly which situation you are in.
No. I work remotely with businesses in the United Kingdom. Workshops, demos, design reviews, testing and training all run online during UK working hours. If your project needs on-site hardware setup, I help you plan for it with your partner or internal team.
No. I am an independent consultant with no vendor commissions or sales targets. I advise on Zoho, Odoo, ERPNext, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and others based on how well they fit your processes, and you buy licenses directly from the vendor or your chosen partner.
You receive documentation of the setup, key decisions and processes, so your team can run the system without depending on me. Many clients choose a light monthly advisory arrangement afterwards to prioritize improvements, but that is optional.
Every business is different. Share where you are today and what you want to fix, and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
