In Odoo, product variants and attributes can keep this manageable, but only if the attribute structure is planned before data is loaded. I define which attributes create separate stock items, which belong in descriptions and how item names read on invoices and dealer price lists. Odoo's manufacturing and quality features can cover much of this, though structured engineering change and quality control points may depend on the edition you choose. I set out which parts are standard, which need configuration and which need a custom field or report, and I ask implementers to demonstrate a real repeat order with an artwork change. Where printing cylinders or plates are made per design, I also define how their cost is charged and how reuse is tracked across reorders.
Gujarat has become a significant location for solar module manufacturing, with plants around Ahmedabad and in other parts of the state. Module assembly is a high-volume process where traceability matters. Each module carries a serial number, is tested on a flash tester that measures its output, and is grouped by measured rating before sale. Buyers and warranty claims may later ask which cells, glass and other materials went into a particular module.
Odoo's serial number tracking can follow each module through stock and sale, and lots can record batches of incoming cells and materials. The harder requirement is test data. Results from production line equipment need to be imported or integrated and attached to each serial, and modules then need to be grouped by rating. Some buyers or government-linked projects may also ask for proof of where cells and modules were made, which should be confirmed with your advisor.
I specify the integration with line equipment, the volume of records expected and how serial-level reports must perform, then check that the proposed Odoo design and hosting can handle that load. Quality checks inside Odoo may depend on the edition. For plants already running a dedicated manufacturing execution system, I define what Odoo should hold and what should stay in the line system, with a clean interface between them through ERP integration.
