What does a Zoho People consultant do for a UAE company?
For an Emirati employer, a Zoho People consultant builds the employee record around passports, residence visas, Emirates ID and work permits with expiry alerts, configures leave and shift rules for office, site and Ramadan schedules, and prepares attendance and leave data for the payroll system that produces WPS salary files. Labor law interpretation stays with your HR or legal advisor.

A typical UAE employer manages staff from many nationalities, each with a passport, a residence visa, an Emirates ID and a work permit that expire on different dates. Add site crews on rotating shifts, office teams on another schedule and Ramadan hours once a year, and the HR spreadsheet quickly becomes the riskiest file in the company.
I work remotely with UAE contractors, facility management firms, traders and service companies to turn that into a structured Zoho People setup: documents tracked, leave rules agreed, attendance captured where people actually work.
Questions about what UAE labor law requires, including leave and end-of-service rights, go to your HR advisor or legal counsel. I configure the policy they confirm.
Every engagement begins with your entities, your workforce mix and the payroll route your finance team already uses.
Passport, residence visa, Emirates ID, work permit, labor contract and medical fitness records with expiry dates, alerts to HR and the PRO function, and restricted access to scans.
Employees attached to the right mainland or free zone company, with sponsoring entity, work location and cost center fields that payroll and finance can rely on.
Rotating shifts, night work, site-based check-in through mobile or supported devices and seasonal schedule changes for outdoor crews, all reflecting your own written policy.
Annual, sick, unpaid, compassionate and other leave types defined from your HR policy, with approval routes for staff traveling home for extended periods.
Attendance, unpaid days, overtime hours and joiner or leaver changes passed to the payroll system that produces Wage Protection System files, with a pre-payroll check.
Resignation to final settlement as a tracked sequence: notice period, asset return, access removal, settlement inputs to payroll and the visa cancellation step handled by your PRO.

For most UAE companies the first value from Zoho People is not leave. It is knowing which documents expire next month. Residence visas, Emirates ID cards, work permits, passports, health insurance cards and, for some roles, professional licenses or driving permits all have their own renewal cycle. A missed renewal can mean fines, a blocked transaction or an employee who cannot travel.
I structure the employee record so each document is a dated entry rather than a note:
Government transactions themselves still happen through the relevant authority portals or your typing center; Zoho People does not replace them. What it provides is one dependable view of what is due, who is handling it and what has been completed, across every company in the group. Exact alert lead times and reminders can be configured in more than one way, so I test the option your plan supports before relying on it.
Attendance rules in the Emirates vary more between companies than people expect. Weekend patterns are not identical across private employers, many businesses run sites seven days a week with rotating rest days, and working hours shorten during Ramadan. Outdoor crews may also follow a midday break period in the hottest months, as announced by the authorities each year.
A workable Zoho People design separates these patterns cleanly:
What counts as overtime, how rest days are compensated and which hours apply during Ramadan are matters of law and policy, and your HR or legal advisor should confirm them. I configure the confirmed rules and test them with sample rosters from real sites, including night shifts that cross midnight, which is where many attendance setups first break.
UAE leave design has a particular rhythm. Many expatriate employees save their leave to travel home for an extended period, often combined with a company-provided ticket under their contract, while others take shorter breaks locally. That makes approvals, coverage planning and balance accuracy especially important.
I configure leave types from your HR policy rather than from a template:
Entitlements, accrual during probation and how leave interacts with final settlement are set by law and contract, and change over time, so they must come from your HR advisor rather than from me. Once confirmed, I build test cases covering a mid-year joiner, a long trip home and a late return, then reconcile the results with HR before go-live. Leave data then feeds payroll, discussed below.
Salaries in the UAE private sector are generally paid through the Wage Protection System, and the WPS file is produced by payroll software, a bank or an exchange house, not by Zoho People. Whether Zoho's payroll product is offered for your account in the UAE and covers your contracts is worth checking directly with Zoho; the Zoho in the UAE page covers the accounting side of that decision.
The Zoho People side of the handoff is a monthly package:
End-of-service calculations belong in payroll, checked by finance against advice from your HR or legal advisor.
Employee data protection also needs attention. The UAE has a federal personal data protection law, and the DIFC and ADGM free zones run their own data protection regimes, so which rules apply depends on where each entity is established. I keep passport and medical data restricted by role, document which entities share one Zoho People account and confirm the account's data center choice with you.
Zoho People fits many small and mid-sized UAE companies that mix office, site and field staff. I would recommend something more, or something different, in these situations:
As an independent consultant I can compare those options without a commission at stake, and I am comfortable working alongside a local implementer you have already hired. For wider system decisions, see my UAE ERP consultant page or the UAE overview of how I work remotely with Emirati businesses.

Yes. I set up each document as a dated record with an owner and alerts to HR or your PRO at the lead times you choose, plus a status that closes the alert once the renewed document is uploaded. The renewal itself still happens through the relevant government channels. Alert options vary by plan, so I test them during setup.
Zoho People is not where WPS files are produced. Payroll software, your bank or an exchange house generates them. Zoho People supplies the inputs: attendance, overtime, unpaid days and joiner or leaver changes. Check with Zoho whether its payroll product is offered for your UAE account and covers your contracts.
Yes, by setting up seasonal shift variants that HR activates for the period rather than editing each employee. The hours themselves follow announcements from the authorities and your own policy, which your HR advisor should confirm each year. I test the variants with sample rosters before they go live.
Usually yes, with each employee linked to the correct employing entity and access restricted by company where needed. Consider data protection too: entities in the DIFC or ADGM follow their own data protection rules. I document which entities share the account and why, so your advisor can review it.
My work is delivered remotely, through video workshops, shared documents and screen-sharing configuration sessions within Gulf business hours. On-site visits are possible only by arrangement. You work directly with me, and I can also coordinate with a local implementer or PRO service you already use.
Every business is different. Share where you are today and what you want to fix, and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
