Can Zoho Inventory run stock for an Italian business?
Zoho Inventory can run stock, warehouses, lots and online orders for an Italian trading or ecommerce business, but the transport document and the electronic invoice need a confirmed home. Whether Zoho produces them, or the gestionale does, is checked with Zoho and your commercialista. I map the stock flow, test those documents and say plainly when an ERP fits better, working remotely and independently.

Italian wholesalers, food and wine producers selling direct, and online shops with a small warehouse often outgrow spreadsheets before they need a large ERP. Zoho Inventory sits in that space: items, warehouses, lots, purchase and sales orders, packing and channel sync, connected to Zoho Books and Zoho CRM.
In Italy, though, goods rarely move without paperwork. The documento di trasporto travels with deliveries, invoices pass through the Sistema di Interscambio, and some businesses issue one deferred invoice for several deliveries. Before configuring a single warehouse, I find out which system will produce each of those documents for you.
I am independent of Zoho and work remotely, so I can recommend Zoho Inventory, a lighter setup or a fuller ERP purely on how your goods, documents and channels actually behave, not on what a license sale would happen to favor.
The items below are where an Italian stock setup succeeds or fails, usually long before anyone looks at a dashboard.
Written confirmation of which system produces the transport document, the invoice and any deferred invoice, tested with sample deliveries and reviewed by your commercialista before go-live.
Batch numbers and expiry dates for food, wine, cosmetics or components that need traceability, set only on items where a recall or audit would require them.
Warehouses or locations representing goods at a subcontractor, a logistics provider or a consignment customer, so total stock reflects reality without mixing ownership and location.
A method for spreading freight, customs and handling costs over goods bought outside the EU, checked against what Zoho Inventory supports and what your accountant expects for valuation.
Stock and orders synchronized with your online shop and marketplaces, using native integrations where they work reliably and a connector or API where they do not.
A physical count plan, opening quantities and values agreed with finance, and a controlled switch so the first day's stock in Zoho matches the shelf.
Follow goods and documents end to end
Build and test with real orders
Go live on a counted stock
In Italy, goods leaving your warehouse for a customer usually travel with a documento di trasporto, and many sellers to trade customers then issue a single deferred invoice that references the deliveries of a period. Both practices are well established, and both raise a design question for Zoho Inventory.
Zoho Inventory produces packages, packing slips and shipments. Whether one of those documents can serve as your transport document, with the content and numbering your advisor expects, is something to confirm with Zoho for the Italian edition and then with your commercialista. I do not assume it.
The patterns I evaluate:
Whichever pattern wins, the rule is the same: one system issues each document, and the other only stores its reference. The invoicing side is covered on Zoho Books in Italy.
Producers of cheese, cured meats, oil, wine and packaged food that sell to shops, restaurants or online buyers need to know which lot went to which customer. EU food rules expect businesses to trace products one step back and one step forward, and a recall is the wrong moment to discover the records are incomplete.
Zoho Inventory supports batch tracking on items, with batch numbers and expiry dates recorded on receipt and selected on sale. The work is in the details:
Where production itself is complex, with recipes, yields and aging, Zoho Inventory's composite items are rarely enough, and an ERP with manufacturing becomes the better base. Your food safety consultant defines which records you must keep; I make sure the system produces them. The global Zoho Inventory page covers batch and serial features in general.
Italian supply chains are full of goods that belong to you but sit somewhere else. Components wait at an outside workshop for processing, finished goods are stored with a third-party logistics provider near a port, or a retailer holds your products on consignment. Each case changes what stock you can sell and what finance should value.
In Zoho Inventory I model these as separate warehouses or locations, chosen carefully:
The documents that accompany these movements in Italy, including transport documents for goods sent for processing, follow the same route decision described above. Your commercialista confirms what each movement needs. If outside processing becomes a large share of your operations, a dedicated tracking layer such as Zoho Creator in Italy, or a manufacturing ERP, may be needed alongside Inventory.
Many Italian traders import from outside the EU and sell through a mix of agents, their own web shop and marketplaces. Three areas need care in Zoho Inventory.
Landed cost. Freight, customs duties, brokerage and local handling change the real cost of imported goods. I check what landed cost handling the current version of Zoho Inventory and Zoho Books offers, then agree with your accountant how those costs reach item valuation. Where the native feature is too limited, a documented allocation routine is safer than guesswork. Intrastat and customs declarations stay with your customs broker and advisor.
Marketplaces and shops. Zoho Inventory offers integrations with several ecommerce platforms and marketplaces, but which ones exist, and how deep they go, differs between countries and shifts as Zoho updates the product. I confirm which ones apply to your channels in Italy, decide which system owns prices, stock and product content, and switch sync on only after opening stock is counted.
Couriers. Shipping label and tracking integrations depend on the carrier and the country. I check which of your couriers connect natively, which need a third-party connector and which are simply handled in the courier's own portal, with tracking numbers recorded on the shipment.
Each of these is tested with real orders before go-live, following my ERP integration approach.
For trading and online selling, Zoho Inventory handles orders and stock well. It is not a manufacturing ERP or a full warehouse management system, and I say so early when the evidence points that way:
These conclusions are written up so you and your advisor can decide. I work remotely, with live sessions in the Italian morning, walkthroughs of the warehouse over video and visits by arrangement. The Italy hub, Zoho in Italy and best ERP for distribution pages give wider context.
Tell me about your business and current systems. I’ll suggest the most sensible first step.

That has to be confirmed for your edition rather than assumed. Zoho Inventory produces packing slips and shipment records; whether one of them can serve as your transport document, with the content and numbering your advisor expects, is a question for Zoho and then your commercialista. If the answer is unclear, the gestionale keeps producing delivery notes and Zoho stores the reference.
Invoices in a Zoho Inventory setup are usually handled through Zoho Books, so the question becomes whether the Books edition offered for Italy issues and transmits electronic invoices for you. I put that question to Zoho in writing and test the result. If it is not confirmed, invoices stay with the Italian package your commercialista already relies on.
Yes. Zoho Inventory supports batch tracking with expiry dates on items you choose. I limit tracking to products where traceability matters, design how lots are captured at receiving and picking, and run a recall rehearsal before go-live so you know the system can trace a lot to every customer who received it.
It depends on the marketplace and the region. Zoho offers native integrations with several platforms, but coverage changes, so I confirm current availability for your channels in Italy. Where no reliable native option exists, a connector or the Zoho Inventory API can fill the gap, with a written rule naming the system that owns stock levels, selling prices and product descriptions.
