What does a UK business get from an independent Google Ads consultant?
An independent Google Ads consultant gives a UK business campaigns aimed at the regions and searches that produce real inquiries, with spend controlled through tight keywords, negatives and location settings. I work remotely to rebuild structure, set up cookie consent and conversion tracking that respect UK GDPR and PECR as your advisor reads them, import CRM outcomes, match landing pages to ads and report on qualified pipeline.

A UK Google Ads account often inherits habits from somewhere else: keyword lists built in a US tool, ads promising things the British offer does not include, and location settings that happily show a Leeds plumbing firm to someone in Lisbon. Fixing those basics usually matters more than any bidding trick.
As an independent Google Ads consultant working remotely for UK firms, I review and rebuild campaign structure, keyword and negative keyword lists, regional targeting, cookie consent and conversion tracking, landing pages and reporting, so spend is judged by the quotes, opportunities and orders your CRM records.
The account, billing and data stay under your company. I am paid for my time only, with no media commission and no fees from any software vendor, which keeps advice on budget levels and tools free of conflicts.
Practical account work shaped by UK geography, UK privacy rules and the way British buyers phrase a search.
A structured look at campaigns, location settings, search terms, conversion actions, consent behavior and landing pages, with a ranked list of fixes written for directors as well as marketers.
Campaigns built around the nations, counties, cities or postcode areas you actually serve, with exclusions for Ireland, Europe or regions outside your coverage where delivery is not possible.
Keywords and negatives in UK phrasing, from solicitor and estate agent to joinery and stockist, plus exclusions for apprenticeships, vacancies, courses and free advice that waste spend.
Cookie banner, Google Tag Manager and consent mode reviewed together, so tags fire as your consent choices intend and conversions are measured as fully as UK rules allow.
Qualified inquiries, quotes issued and orders won sent back from your CRM to Google Ads, so bidding learns from the stages that represent revenue rather than every form.
Pages that repeat the promise of the ad, show prices with or without VAT as your buyers expect, state the areas served and ask only for details sales needs.
Understand spend and measurement
Put foundations in place
Manage against qualified outcomes
The UK is compact, but buying behavior still varies by place. Competition for London keywords is a different contest from the same terms in Cumbria or the Highlands, and a firm in Belfast may need to decide carefully whether customers across the border in the Republic of Ireland are part of its market, since currency, VAT treatment and delivery terms change there.
I set location options so ads reach people located in your target areas rather than anyone who has shown interest in them. Campaigns then follow how you deliver: by nation where marketing differs between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland; by county or city where branches cover set territories; or by postcode area and radius for trades and field service firms with a fixed travel range.
Separate regional campaigns are only worth having if they change a decision, such as a different budget, offer or phone number. Otherwise one campaign with clear exclusions gathers data faster. Location bid adjustments wait until each area has enough qualified inquiries to show a real difference, so spend moves on evidence rather than a few clicks.
For Welsh-language or community-language audiences, separate ad groups and landing pages are prepared, with the translated wording produced by fluent writers in your organization or a language partner while the engagement itself runs in English.
UK buyers search with their own vocabulary. They look for a solicitor, an accountant for a limited company, a fit-out contractor, a stockist or a supplier on a framework, and they use terms tied to UK regulation and trade bodies. Keyword lists exported from a US-default tool miss many of these and include phrases nobody here types.
I build keyword lists from UK search data, your sales team's language and the search terms report of the existing account. Match types are used deliberately: exact and phrase for the core commercial terms, broad match only where conversion data is strong enough for Google to learn safely.
Negative keywords protect every campaign at once. UK accounts tend to attract searches for apprenticeships, vacancies, salaries, courses, council services, free templates and Citizens Advice style guidance. Those are reviewed weekly and collected into shared lists.
Performance Max is assessed rather than assumed. It can suit ecommerce retailers with a reliable product feed, but it hides much of where spend goes and will optimize toward easy actions if those are what you measure. For B2B and service businesses I start with Search, add Performance Max only once CRM-based conversions are in place, and compare the two in the CRM. My Google Ads management page sets out the general method.
Tracking in the UK sits under two sets of rules. UK GDPR governs personal data, and PECR covers storing or reading information on a visitor's device, which includes most analytics and advertising cookies. The ICO's guidance treats non-essential cookies as needing consent, and Google applies its own user consent policy to UK traffic. In practice that makes the cookie banner part of your Google Ads setup.
I review the banner, Google Tag Manager and consent mode together. Common problems include tags that fire before a choice is made, a banner that records consent but never passes it to Google, and conversion counts that drop sharply after a banner change without anyone knowing why. Consent mode can help Google model some conversions from visitors who decline, but it does not replace consent.
Offline conversion import adds a second layer. The Google click ID is saved against each inquiry in your CRM, and stages such as qualified, quoted and won are uploaded back to Google Ads. Because this involves personal data moving between systems, your privacy notice, data processing terms and lawful basis need to cover it. Those decisions belong to your data protection lead or legal advisor, and I configure the setup to match what they approve.
Some UK sectors face extra controls on what they can advertise and how. Financial services ads are subject to Google's verification requirements alongside FCA rules on financial promotions. Gambling, healthcare, pharmacy, alcohol and some legal services each carry platform policies, and the CAP Code enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority applies to claims in ads and landing pages generally. I check copy and pages against Google's policies and flag claims, pricing statements or comparisons that your compliance team should review.
Pricing language needs care. Consumer-facing ads and pages are generally expected to show prices that include VAT, while trade buyers often expect prices without it. Mixing the two causes complaints and wasted clicks, so the ad and page should state clearly which applies.
Budget pacing is explained in plain terms rather than figures. Google treats the daily figure as an average, so some days overshoot it and others undershoot, with the total settling across the month. I track spend against your monthly plan, bank holidays and seasonal peaks, and against the capacity of the people answering calls, so the budget does not run dry before month end or keep spending during a period nobody can respond.
A surprising number of UK firms discover, when they change agency, that their Google Ads account sits under the old agency's manager account or was paid for on someone else's card. Part of my first review is moving the account, payments profile, tag container and analytics into your company's name, keeping past conversion data where possible. I then hold a standard user login that a director can withdraw.
Reporting is written for directors as well as marketers. Each month it covers impression share on priority terms, search term changes, cost per qualified inquiry, quotes and orders by campaign and region, and the actions taken. Platform figures explain what happened inside Google; CRM figures show whether it was worth it.
That depends on the CRM recording the right stages consistently. Where it does not, I start there, using the approach on my UK CRM consulting page. Paid search also works better as one part of a planned pipeline; my UK B2B lead generation work brings outreach, LinkedIn and nurturing into the same measurement, and organic visibility is covered by my UK SEO work.

For most UK websites, analytics and advertising cookies are treated as non-essential, so PECR and ICO guidance point toward consent before they are set. Consent mode lets Google adjust measurement based on each visitor's choice. Your data protection lead or legal advisor should confirm the approach for your site; I configure the tags to follow it.
It depends on who buys. Consumers generally expect VAT-inclusive prices, while trade and business buyers often compare prices without VAT. What matters most is that the ad and landing page agree and state the basis clearly. Your accountant can confirm any pricing display requirements specific to your sector.
Yes. Google Ads supports targeting by postcode areas, cities, counties and radius around a location, as well as excluding areas. I use whichever level matches your delivery or travel range, and set the location option so ads reach people located there rather than people who have only shown interest.
Not always. Some accounts sit under an agency's manager account with billing on the agency's card, which complicates any change. I check ownership, billing and access during the audit and help move everything into your company's control, keeping the conversion history where possible.
Search terms and pacing are reviewed weekly, with a written summary monthly and a call to discuss results and next steps. Urgent issues such as policy disapprovals or tracking failures are raised as soon as I see them. Everything runs remotely during UK working hours.
Every business is different. Share where you are today and what you want to fix, and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
