What does an Odoo CRM consultant do for an Australian business?
For an Australian company on Odoo, a CRM consultant sets up the pipeline so quotes show GST the way each customer expects, include freight from the right warehouse, and turn into orders, deliveries, field jobs and invoices without re-entry. The work also covers ABN-based customer records that suit Peppol e-invoicing, lead routing across states and time zones, and an honest answer on Odoo CRM when Xero stays as the ledger.

Australian Odoo users tend to sell physical goods over long distances or deliver work on site: wholesalers and importers, building product suppliers, equipment dealers, and trade and service businesses. Their quotes carry more than a price. Freight from Perth is not freight from Brisbane, a homeowner expects GST included while a builder expects it shown separately, and an accepted quote often becomes a job for a crew.
I work remotely with Australian businesses to design Odoo CRM around those realities, so the opportunity becomes an accurate quotation and then the delivery, field task or project and invoice that follow. Sales, operations and finance then look at the same record instead of reconciling three.
I am an independent consultant, with no Odoo reseller agreement and no tie to local or offshore implementers. I work across Australian time zones and give straight advice, including when Odoo CRM is not the right tool for the way your team sells.
These are the parts of an Australian Odoo CRM setup that decide whether quotes are trusted by customers and by finance.
Separate price lists and tax settings for retail customers who see GST-inclusive prices and trade customers who see GST-exclusive prices, so totals agree with the tax invoice issued later.
Delivery methods and freight rules by zone or warehouse, so a quote from an eastern seaboard warehouse to Western Australia or the Northern Territory reflects real cost.
Accepted quotes that create field service tasks or projects for installation and service work, with the scope, site address and contact carried across, where those apps fit your edition.
ABN captured and checked on every business customer, used to catch duplicates before they reach invoicing, and kept accurate for Peppol e-invoicing where your customers ask for it.
Sales teams by state or region, assignment rules that respect time zones and daylight saving differences, and a backup owner so inquiries are not left waiting overnight.
A clear decision on whether Odoo replaces Xero or MYOB as the ledger, or whether another CRM linked to the existing ledger is the simpler path for your business.
How quotes are really built
CRM linked to operations
Make it part of the week
Plenty of Australian businesses sell to both consumers and trade customers. Consumers expect a price with GST included. Builders, retailers and other businesses expect a price before GST with the tax shown separately. If Odoo is set up for only one of these, reps end up adjusting lines by hand and the invoice no longer matches the accepted quote.
Odoo handles both, but the decision has to be made deliberately:
Your accountant confirms the tax treatment. My work is making sure the quotation a customer accepts is the same total that finance invoices and reports. The ledger side, including BAS, is covered on my Odoo Accounting Australia page.
Distance shapes Australian quoting more than in most markets. A wholesaler with stock in Sydney and Melbourne quoting a customer in Darwin needs to know which warehouse ships, what the freight costs and how long it takes. If the rep guesses, the margin or the delivery promise is wrong.
In Odoo, I connect the CRM quote to inventory data:
The stock side is covered on Odoo Inventory. The CRM benefit is that reps can quote with confidence from their phones, and managers can see which quotes are stalled because of freight or availability rather than price.
For trade and service businesses, the quote is the start of the work rather than the end of the sale. An accepted quote for an installation, maintenance contract or fit-out should create the job that the crew will complete, with the scope, site address and contact already filled in.
Odoo can do this when CRM, Sales and the job apps are designed together. Service products on the quotation can generate project tasks, or field service tasks in editions where that app is available, so check which apps your edition includes before planning around them. What I set up:
Quote follow-up is still the biggest sales lever in this kind of business. I add a simple report of sent quotes with no next activity, reviewed weekly by the sales manager. For the operational picture, see ERP for field service.
The Australian Business Number is the most reliable way to recognize a business customer in Odoo. Two records with the same ABN are almost always the same entity, whatever trading name the rep typed. I make the ABN the key field for business customers:
The ABN also matters for e-invoicing. Australia uses the Peppol network, and business participants are commonly identified by their ABN. Some customers, particularly government buyers and larger companies, may ask to receive invoices that way. Accurate customer ABNs in the CRM make that easier when finance turns it on. Check Peppol support for your Odoo edition and version.
Lead routing completes the data picture. Sales teams by state, with assignment rules that respect time zones and daylight saving differences, stop inquiries from Perth sitting unanswered because the east coast has gone home.
Many Australian businesses run Xero or MYOB and like it. If Odoo is coming in only as a CRM while the ledger stays put, much of the advantage of selling inside Odoo disappears, because quotes, orders and invoices no longer live in one system. In that case a dedicated CRM connected to the existing ledger may be simpler, such as HubSpot or a similar tool. If Odoo takes over inventory and accounting, Odoo CRM usually makes sense.
The CRM app is part of Odoo Community. VoIP, Studio, field service and some automation may need Enterprise or paid services, and features move between versions, so I check your edition early.

Yes. Price lists and tax settings can be configured so retail customers see GST-inclusive prices and trade customers see GST-exclusive prices with tax shown separately. The customer type should be set when the lead converts, and rounding should be tested on real quotes with your accountant.
Often not. The main benefit of Odoo CRM is that quotes become orders, deliveries and invoices in one system. If Xero stays as the ledger and Odoo holds only the pipeline, a CRM built to sit beside Xero may be simpler. If Odoo will run stock and accounting, Odoo CRM is usually the better choice.
It can. Service products on a quotation can create project tasks, or field service tasks where that app is in your edition, carrying the scope, site and contact across. I design the quote templates, deposit invoicing and job handover together so the crew starts with complete information.
Yes. I work remotely with businesses across Australia, scheduling sessions to suit eastern, central and western time zones, and recording training for reps and technicians in the field. An in-person workshop can be discussed by arrangement where it genuinely helps.
Every business is different. Share where you are today and what you want to fix, and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
