What does a Zoho Inventory consultant do for a Canadian business?
For Canadian sellers, a Zoho Inventory consultant sets up warehouses in different provinces, links Shopify, Amazon.ca and wholesale orders to one stock count, holds English and French item data, configures lot tracking for food and health products, and gets duty, brokerage and exchange costs into item cost. I work remotely and independently, and I say when a WMS or manufacturing ERP is the better fit.

Canadian product companies often sell across a very wide country from one or two warehouses, typically in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta or British Columbia, and many also ship to customers in the United States. Freight costs, sales tax by destination province and two currencies all touch the same order.
Zoho Inventory is a natural fit for a lot of these firms, especially those already on Zoho Books or moving off QuickBooks. It works well when the item master, warehouses and channel rules are set up for how Canadian orders actually flow, and less well when they are copied from a generic template.
I work remotely with Canadian owners, operations managers and controllers, with full overlap in Eastern and Central time and planned sessions for teams in the Mountain and Pacific zones. I am an independent Zoho Inventory consultant with no reseller arrangement behind my advice.
I spend most of the engagement on channel rules, provincial shipping data, bilingual items, traceability and import cost, because those decide whether the stock record holds up.
Shopify, Amazon.ca, eBay and wholesale orders brought into one stock record, with buffers per channel and a single owner for prices and product content.
Warehouses in different provinces set up as locations with transfer orders between them, so freight decisions and stock positions are based on real data.
French descriptions and packaging details held alongside English names, so Quebec customers and labeling requirements are supported from the item record.
Lot numbers and expiry dates for food, natural health and personal care products, and serials for equipment, applied only where a recall or warranty needs them.
Duty, customs brokerage, freight and exchange differences on US and overseas purchases allocated into item cost, so Canadian dollar margins are honest.
An independent view of whether Zoho Inventory will carry your volumes, assembly and warehouse needs, or whether a broader ERP is the safer long-term choice.

Tune after the first months
Shopify started in Canada, and many Canadian brands run their direct store on it, then add Amazon.ca, sometimes Amazon.com for US customers, eBay, and wholesale accounts with independent retailers or larger chains. Zoho Inventory has native integrations for several of these platforms. Which ones are available and how far each sync goes changes, so I confirm the current position for your exact setup before relying on it.
What I agree with your team before connecting anything:
Destination matters for tax too. GST/HST, and PST or QST where relevant, follow where the goods are delivered, so ship-to addresses must be complete. How those taxes are set up in the accounting layer is on Zoho Books in Canada.
Shipping across Canada is expensive and slow compared with the distances involved in many other markets, so where stock sits has a direct effect on margin and delivery promises. Growing Canadian companies often add a second warehouse or a 3PL in another province, for example one in the east and one in the west, to cut transit times.
In Zoho Inventory I set this up so the trade-offs are visible:
A transfer between your own warehouses in different provinces is an internal movement, not a sale, but your accountant should confirm how any provincial tax considerations apply to your situation. For distribution networks in general, my distribution page goes further.
Canadian consumer products generally need bilingual labeling in English and French, and Quebec has its own French-language requirements for commerce. Zoho Inventory is not a labeling system, but it can hold the bilingual descriptions, packaging details and product information that feed your labels, packing slips and channel listings. I add custom fields for French names and descriptions where the standard fields are not enough, so the data lives on the item rather than in a separate spreadsheet.
Traceability is the other recurring need. Food importers and processors are expected to trace products one step forward and one step back, and natural health product and cosmetics sellers face similar expectations from retailers. Your regulatory advisor confirms what applies to your products. In Zoho Inventory:
I finish with a mock recall: one lot, traced forward to every customer, timed. The food and beverage page describes wider controls.
Many Canadian sellers buy from US suppliers in US dollars, and others import from Asia or Europe through a customs broker. Each shipment can carry duty, brokerage fees, freight, and sometimes anti-dumping or other charges your broker identifies. Goods from the US or Mexico may qualify for preferential treatment under the trade agreement between the three countries if origin is documented, which your broker determines.
The item master can help by holding tariff classification and country of origin on each item, so your broker is not asking the same questions every month.
For cost, Zoho Inventory and Zoho Books record purchases in foreign currency well. Spreading freight, duty and brokerage across received items is more limited than in mid-market ERP and these features have evolved, so I take a practical route:
The Canadian trading ERP page covers the wider import flow and currency exposure.
I am direct about the boundaries before a project starts:
When these apply, I compare paths without a vendor interest. For the wider Zoho picture see Zoho in Canada; for selection work, ERP consulting in Canada; and for how remote engagements run, the Canada hub.

Zoho Inventory offers native integrations with several store platforms and marketplaces, including widely used ones such as Shopify and Amazon, though availability and depth vary by marketplace region and change over time. Yes, through item fields and custom fields for French names and descriptions, which can then feed documents and listings. It is not a labeling system, so packaging compliance is handled elsewhere, but keeping bilingual data on the item avoids separate spreadsheets that drift out of date.
Set each warehouse up as its own location and move stock between them with transfer orders, so goods in transit are visible. Orders should ship from the nearest location with stock. Your accountant should confirm any tax considerations for your specific situation.
To a degree, depending on current features and your costing method. Purchase cost in US dollars or other currencies is handled well, while allocating duty, brokerage and freight is more limited than in mid-market ERP. I test your real case and add a controlled adjustment process where needed.
I work remotely and schedule sessions with the most overlap in Eastern and Central time, with planned meetings for Mountain and Pacific teams. Configuration happens between sessions, and on-site visits are possible only by arrangement.
