What does a Zoho Inventory consultant do for an Indian business?
In India, a Zoho Inventory consultant structures stock across godowns and state registrations, connects Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho and your own store to one count, makes sure transfers carry the GST documents they need, sets up batch-wise expiry and serial tracking, and gets customs and freight costs into item cost. I work remotely and independently, and I say clearly when a manufacturing ERP or WMS is the better choice.

An Indian distributor or D2C brand I speak to typically has a main godown, one or two branch godowns in other states, stock sitting in marketplace fulfillment centers, and dealers who ask for stock confirmation on WhatsApp. Tally holds the accounts, and an Excel sheet holds the version of stock everyone actually uses.
Zoho Inventory, from an Indian software company, is an obvious candidate for these businesses. It brings marketplaces, godowns and Zoho Books together, but only works well when GST registrations, branch transfers, units and batch data are designed properly from the start.
I work remotely with Indian founders, operations heads and finance teams during Indian business hours, and I work closely with your CA on tax treatment. I am an independent Zoho Inventory consultant, not a Zoho partner, so I can also tell you when another platform suits you better.
I focus on the parts that decide whether Indian stock records hold up: marketplaces, multi-state godowns, GST documents on movements, batches and import cost.
Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, Myntra and your own Shopify or Zoho Commerce store linked to one stock source, through native integrations where available and connectors or the API where not.
Main and branch godowns, marketplace fulfillment stock and consignment stock at dealers set up as locations, aligned with the GST registration each one falls under.
Stock transfers within a state and across states designed with your CA so each one carries the right challan, invoice or e-way bill, generated from or linked to Zoho.
Batch numbers with expiry and MRP for pharma, FMCG and cosmetics, and serial or IMEI tracking for electronics and mobiles, applied only where needed.
Freight, customs duty, CHA charges and port costs allocated into item cost, with IGST paid at import kept separate where it is claimed as input credit.
Stock items, godowns, units, batches and opening values moved from Tally into Zoho Inventory, cleaned and reconciled before the first live invoice.

Make the new routine stick
Indian online sellers usually spread across Amazon and Flipkart, add Meesho for value segments or Myntra and Nykaa for fashion and beauty, and run their own store on Shopify, WooCommerce or Zoho Commerce. Zoho Inventory offers native integrations with some of these, and others need a connector or the API. Coverage and depth change, so I verify the current position for your accounts before designing around it.
The decisions that matter most:

In India, where a godown sits for GST purposes matters as much as where it sits on the map. A business with registrations in several states has, for tax purposes, separate units under each registration. Moving stock between godowns under different registrations is generally treated as a supply that needs a tax invoice, while movements within one registration typically travel under a delivery challan. Above certain values, goods in transit need an e-way bill. The exact treatment is for your CA to confirm, and the rules change, so I design the process with them.
In Zoho Inventory and Zoho Books that means:
The parent page on Zoho in India covers the wider GST and e-invoicing setup.
Traceability is a daily need in several Indian sectors. Pharma and healthcare distributors work batch by batch, with expiry dates and often a different MRP on each batch. FMCG and cosmetics distributors deal with near-expiry returns from retailers. Electronics and mobile phone sellers need IMEI or serial numbers to handle warranties, replacements and fraud checks.
Zoho Inventory supports batch tracking with manufacture and expiry dates and serial number tracking. What I configure and test:
I apply tracking only to items that need it, because it adds work at every movement. The pharmaceutical and distribution pages cover these sectors in more detail.
Indian item masters carry more data than most. Each item needs an HSN code and the GST rate that applies to it, and units cause frequent trouble: goods bought in boxes or bags and sold in pieces or kilograms, or loose and packed versions of the same product. Getting units and conversions right before migration prevents many of the stock mismatches I am asked to fix later.
For importers, the purchase invoice is only part of the cost. Freight, insurance, basic customs duty, CHA charges, port and container charges, and transport to the godown all add up. IGST paid at import is generally available as input credit and stays out of stock cost, as your CA will confirm.
Zoho Inventory and Zoho Books handle foreign currency purchases well. Their ability to allocate additional charges across items is narrower than in larger ERP systems and has changed over time. So I:
The Indian trading ERP page describes the wider import and dealer flow, and ERP data migration covers the move from Tally.
Zoho Inventory suits a wide range of Indian traders, distributors and D2C brands. I recommend looking further when:
When these apply, I compare options with no stake in the result. My ERP consulting in India page covers selection work, and the India hub explains how my remote engagements run.

Zoho Inventory offers native integrations with some marketplaces and store platforms used in India, and others can be connected through a connector or the API. Availability and depth change, so I check what works for your accounts and set up one stock source with clear returns handling.
Movements between godowns under different GST registrations are generally treated as supplies needing a tax invoice, and goods in transit may need an e-way bill. Your CA confirms the treatment. I set up locations per registration and transfer processes that produce the right documents.
Batch tracking with manufacture and expiry dates is supported. Batch-wise MRP needs careful design, sometimes with custom fields or price lists, so I test it against your actual sales documents before go-live. Near-expiry reports then support returns and liquidation decisions.
Yes. I extract stock items, godowns, units, batches and opening values from Tally, clean duplicates and unit errors, load them into Zoho Inventory and reconcile quantities and values against a physical count and the Tally closing figures before going live.
Yes. I work remotely with Indian businesses during normal business hours, run workshops and training online, and coordinate with your CA on tax questions. Visits to your godown are possible only by arrangement.
