Which HR processes can Zoho People handle for an Egyptian employer?
For an Egyptian employer, a Zoho People consultant sets up bilingual staff records and Arabic policy documents checked by native speakers, shift and Ramadan schedules for plants and offices, a holiday calendar that HR updates when official dates move, and a clean monthly handoff to the payroll that calculates social insurance and salary tax. The design is done remotely and independently, and labor law interpretation is left to your advisors.

An Egyptian employer may have office staff in Cairo, production workers on shifts in an industrial zone and sales teams across governorates, all governed by policies written in Arabic and managed by an HR team juggling paper files, attendance machines and spreadsheets. Leave balances, overtime and new joiner paperwork end up depending on a few people who know where everything is.
I help Egyptian companies make Zoho People the shared record behind those processes. The work is remote and independent: I review your HR policies and current files, design the configuration in English with Arabic labels and documents prepared by your bilingual staff, test it against real cases and hand over a system your HR team can run.
Each item reflects how HR actually runs in an Egyptian company with offices, plants and a workforce that reads policies in Arabic.
Employee records holding names in Arabic and English, national ID details, job grades and reporting lines, so documents, searches and reports work for Arabic-speaking HR staff and English-speaking managers alike.
A process where your bilingual HR staff or a local partner writes the Arabic policy text, checks every leave type label and letter template, and signs off printed output before employees see it.
Shift templates for plants, warehouses, call centers and offices, with Ramadan timings and any summer schedules set up as variants that HR switches on, rather than edits made to each employee.
Joiner checklists covering national ID copies, qualifications, military status documents where your policy requires them, medical checks and contract signature, each owned by HR, IT or the line manager.
Monthly data for your payroll provider or package: joiners, leavers, changes, unpaid leave, deductions your internal regulations allow and approved overtime, ready for social insurance and salary tax calculation.
Role-based access so supervisors approve leave without seeing salaries or medical notes, with exports limited to named HR staff, built on what your legal advisor concludes about data protection.

HR runs it day to day
HR in Egypt operates in Arabic. Employment contracts, internal work regulations, warning letters and leave forms are normally Arabic documents, and employees expect to see their own names written correctly. At the same time, a regional parent, a foreign shareholder or senior management may read reports in English. Zoho People can support both, but the bilingual design has to be explicit.
The engagement runs in English, so responsibilities are agreed at the start:
Interface language support in Zoho People should be checked screen by screen for the parts your employees will use, including the mobile app, rather than assumed from a feature list. Where a screen is weak in Arabic, we decide whether staff can use it in English, whether a short Arabic guide closes the gap or whether it is a reason to reconsider.
Policies themselves come from your HR team and legal advisor. I turn their final text into rules, not the other way round.
Attendance rules in an Egyptian manufacturer or contact center can be intricate: rotating shifts, night work, weekly rest days that differ by department, and shorter working hours during Ramadan. Official holidays add another variable, because the government sometimes moves a holiday to a different weekday, and religious holidays move with the Hijri calendar, so their exact dates are often fixed only days ahead.
I keep each pattern separate in Zoho People:
Overtime definitions, pay for night and rest-day work, and the Ramadan timetable are matters for your HR advisor under Egyptian labor law and your work regulations. I configure what they confirm and test it with sample rosters from real shifts, including shifts that cross midnight and holidays that fall on a rest day.
Hiring in Egypt involves a familiar stack of paper: a copy of the national ID, educational certificates, a criminal record certificate where your policy asks for one, a military service status document for male employees, a medical check and, for some roles, professional syndicate membership. Social insurance registration also needs the right details at the start. When this is tracked on paper, joiners begin work with incomplete files and HR spends months chasing them.
In Zoho People I turn onboarding into a checklist with owners:
Which documents you must hold, and for how long, is for your HR advisor to confirm, and requirements differ for foreign employees who need work permits. I build the checklist from your confirmed list and restrict access to scanned documents to HR. Performance cycles follow the same pattern: probation review tasks at the end of the agreed period, then simple periodic appraisals in forms that supervisors on the plant floor can complete.
Zoho People manages HR inputs; it does not calculate Egyptian payroll. Social insurance contributions, salary tax and related filings are normally handled by a local payroll package, an outsourced provider or the payroll module of your ERP. Zoho Payroll is offered only in certain countries, so ask Zoho or the partner whether anything is available for Egypt in your account before designing around it.
The value of Zoho People here is a clean, approved monthly package:
The first live month runs alongside the old method and every difference is explained. After that, a cut-off date and an HR sign-off keep late changes out of the run. Salary figures can stay outside Zoho People if you want fewer people able to see them.
Where the payroll journal enters the ledger, and how electronic invoicing affects finance, is covered on my Zoho Books Egypt page. If you are weighing several Zoho apps at once, the Zoho One Egypt page discusses licensing for large workforces.
Staff records contain national ID numbers, health information and family details. Egypt has a personal data protection law, and your legal advisor should interpret what it means for your company, including any conditions on transferring data abroad. I make the setup able to follow that advice: access by role, exports limited to named people, retention rules for leavers, and a written answer from Zoho on which data center region hosts your account.
Groups with several companies, sometimes including a free zone entity, need an early decision on whether all of them share one Zoho People account, how employees who move between companies are handled and who administers each. I document that structure before data is loaded.
Zoho People fits Egyptian companies with office, sales and plant staff who need self-service and one reliable record. I would suggest something different when:

No. Zoho People records the HR inputs. Social insurance contributions and salary tax are worked out by your payroll provider, software or ERP, unless Zoho confirms an Egyptian payroll option for your account, which is worth verifying with Zoho or the partner. I design the monthly export so payroll receives approved, reconciled data.
Zoho People offers Arabic in parts of its interface, but coverage should be tested screen by screen, including the mobile app and printed letters. The engagement runs in English; your bilingual HR staff or a local partner write the Arabic text and check it. Where gaps remain, we decide together how to handle them.
Ramadan timings are set up in advance as shift variants that HR switches on when the month begins and off when it ends, so no one edits individual employees. The hours themselves come from your HR advisor and work regulations. I test them with real rosters before Ramadan starts.
Neither. I am independent and not a Zoho partner; recommending Zoho People, a local HR and payroll product or a mix of both earns me nothing extra. If an implementer is already engaged, I can work beside them or review their setup on your behalf.
Delivery is remote: video workshops, shared test sessions and recorded walkthroughs for supervisors. Plant teams can share rosters, device exports and photos of current forms, which covers most of what I need. Time on site for a specific milestone can be agreed by arrangement.
Every business is different. Share where you are today and what you want to fix, and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
